Terms & Competition Rules

Last updated: July 2, 2026

Eligibility & registration

Open to students in grades 6–8 (Middle School division) and 9–12 (High School division) worldwide. Registration must be completed by a parent, guardian, or teacher. Each registration covers one student in one subject track for one monthly round. A student may enter multiple tracks with separate registrations.

Competition rules

One attempt per registration, taken alone and unassisted within the published time window. The following are prohibited: help from any other person; AI tools of any kind (chatbots, solvers, browser agents); textbooks, notes, or the open web; calculators unless the question states otherwise; and sharing or publishing test content. Scratch paper and pencil are allowed and encouraged. Full screen and webcam are required for the duration of the test.

Integrity enforcement

Test sessions are monitored by automated systems (timing analysis, input analysis, focus tracking, consented webcam snapshots). Flagged results are withheld pending review. Gold and Silver awards require a short live verification round before certificates are issued; declining verification converts the award to Bronze. Certificates obtained in violation of these rules are revoked, and the public verification page will show them as revoked. Repeat violations result in a ban. Integrity decisions are final.

Awards

Tiers are computed within each division and track: Gold (top 5%), Silver (next 10%), Bronze (next 15%), Honorable Mention (half of the remainder), and Participation. All certificates are digital PDFs carrying a unique verification code.

Payments & refunds

Fees: $10 USD (Middle School) and $15 USD (High School) per track, paid via PayPal. Full refunds are available on request until registration closes (48 hours before test day). After that, fees are non-refundable except where SciBout cancels a round, in which case all fees are refunded in full.

Service & liability

SciBout is provided "as is." We work hard to keep test day reliable; if a technical failure on our side prevents a student from completing the test, we will offer a retake window or a full refund. SciBout's total liability for any claim is limited to the registration fee paid. These terms may be updated between rounds; the version in force when you register applies.
